This tartan was designed by Debra Benteau in Apr 2007. It was woven for a particular Canadian Chapter, Sisters Unlimited, of the Red Hat Society. The foundation of the Society was inspired by Jenny Joseph's poem, "Warning," who wrote "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat ..." Our hope is that many thousands of Red Hatters around the world will embrace 'The Purple and The Red' as a unique symbol of our unity!

The Red Hat Society (RHS) is a social organization founded in 1998 for women approaching the age of 50 and beyond. The Red Hat Society is the largest women's social group in the world. Their name changed from Red Hatters United (Canada) to the present one on 18th Jan. 2010.
